Quasi-Experimental study of effects of lighting on rest, activity and melatonin in postpartum women

ABSTRACT Objectives: to compare the parameters of activity/rest cycle early postpartum breastfeeding women under a controlled and uncontrolled long wavelength ray light regimen. Methods: quasi-experimental study with their babies during postnatal rooming-in, São Paulo, Brazil. Participants were allocated either an experimental (intervention) or comparison group. The intervention involved exposure woman in room artificial at night. Each woman’s level 6-sulfatoxymelatonin 24 hours times was analyzed. Results: mean groups similar. percentages total load day night similar (p=0.09). At hours, group presented significantly lower percentage compared (p=0.04). Conclusions: who stayed long-wavelength showed no difference levels period.
